ALLIANCE WAR SEASON 58 - A BIG THING CHANGELOG
FOREWORD
Hey all, and welcome to another Changelog for
Season 58 of Alliance War! We’re excited to share with you the first experimental Season of Alliance War. We’ve been looking for ways to spice up Alliance War in small but impactful ways, and to excite a broader range of players about Alliance War. This season we’re trying something completely different, and we hope that even if Alliance War isn’t normally your thing, you’ll give it a shot, going toe to toe with other Alliances to be the best group of War Players the Contest has seen. We want to underline that these sweeping changes to the map, the scoring, as well as Blacklist and Whitelist changes are an experiment, and things will be more traditional again in Season 59.
We have no plans to retire the current structure of Alliance War, but you may periodically see more of this new format mixed in with it if things go well. Without further ado, let’s jump into the update!
BIG THINGS Map Update

This is the keystone to this exciting season. To help rejuvenate the
Alliance War Experience, we wanted to focus on fights that feel meaningful, and make clear, simpler asks of Summoners on both
Attack and Defense. By reducing the complexity of these sprawling maps down to only two mechanics (only one of which is threatening) on each of ten nodes, we aim to reduce the feeling of confusion it brings to look at an Alliance War map for the first time, making it easier for you and your alliance to jump right in!
The idea is for each
Battlegroup Member to face a single supercharged
BIG THING Boss per
Battlegroup Member (Challenger, Expert, and Elite Map Players). As usual, who these 10 Defenders are and where they are placed is up to your Opponents. Using only
2 Attacking Champions, you then face a fight with only a single added mechanic to bolster the Defender’s threats, in addition to a truly
massive Health Boost. Attackers get some serious help, too, though - Summoners that play into the new
Challenge Nodes listed below will be able to access insane amounts of damage. Let’s take a look at the new Buffs in more detail.
NEW BUFFS:
BIG THING - FORCE CHARGE - 1/2/3 - Race to the TopForce Charges are gained via "BIG THING - CHALLENGE" nodes, each increasing the damage the Defender takes by 25%.
Force Charges last 10 seconds, are paused while below 20 stacks and then expire one at a time, expiring
5%/8%/10% more quickly for each active.
#Saga Champions gain 100% increased Force Charge potency.
BIG THING - CHALLENGE - Tech ControlWhen one of the Defender's Prowess effects are Invalidated or when they are Immune to a Prowess Buff, gain 4 Force Charges. If the Defender is struck while they are suffering from Cowardice, gain 1 Force Charge.
BIG THING - CHALLENGE - Buff SafetyWhen the Attacker is Immune to Nullify, gain 5 Force Charges. When the Attacker is Immune to a Buff, gain 1 Force Charge.
BIG THING - CHALLENGE - Analog BlockWhen the Defender's Auto-Block fails or when their Auto-Block is broken, gain 1 Force Charge.
BIG THING - CHALLENGE - ComboWhen the Attacker's Combo Meter passes a multiple of 10, gain 8 Force Charges.
BIG THING - CHALLENGE - InterceptWhen Intercepting the Defender, gain 7 Force Charges.
BIG THING - CHALLENGE - Debuff ControlGain 2 Vigor whenever the Defender Purifies, Cleanses, or is Immune to a Debuff.
BIG THING - CHALLENGE - Buff ControlWhen the Defender has a Buff Nullified, Staggered, expire, or fail due to Ability Accuracy, gain 3 Force Charges.
BIG THING - CHALLENGE - Good HealthWhen the Attacker Purifies or Cleanses a Debuff, or is Immune to any effect, gain 2 Force Charges.
BIG THING - CHALLENGE - Bandaid SolutionWhen the Defender is prevented from healing due to Heal Block, or dealt damage from a Regeneration effect while their Regeneration Rate is below 0, gain 1 Force Charge.
BIG THING - CHALLENGE - ResistanceWhen an Incinerate or Shock from Hazard Shift is inflicted with reduced potency, gain 2 Force Charges.
BIG THING - CHALLENGE - PunishmentWhen Punishing or Interrupting the Defender's Special or Heavy Attacks, gain 5 Force Charges.
BIG THING - CHALLENGE - RootedWhen striking a Defender suffering from Root, gain 5 Force Charges.
Each node will be given a sizable health boost (
12000%) and a
Challenge Node that will allow the player to earn
Force Charges and increase their overall damage dramatically. These fights can end up being very long without proper maintenance of Force Charges, and timing out is a real possibility. You’ll want to make sure your team of
2 Attackers is equipped to balance the threats of the Defender with the need to build and keep Force Charges. Perhaps you’ll want a backup to give you a second shot at taking down these BIG THINGS… or maybe a key
synergy for your main attacker will serve you better.

For
Defending Alliances, your job is simple. Place
Defenders that either make it more difficult for Attackers to gain their
Force Charges and force a time out, or that combine with the nodes to make them a truly superpowered
BIG THING Defender, challenging
Attackers to survive at all! Each
Battlegroup Member places only
1 Defender on a single node; choose wisely the best combination of Defenders to ensure victory.
Whitelist and Blacklists will not exist for this special map, and to make sure Summoners can engage properly with the Challenge Nodes, we will not be allowing Alliances to
Ban any Attackers.
SCORING CHANGES
Along with the changes to the Map, we’re making some minor adjustments to Scoring to help alleviate the stress of having to deal with these super powered BIG THINGS, with maximum focus on
Defender Diversity and Attacker Bonuses. This is the way that we’re shaking things up…

Alliances who maximize their
Defender Diversity on a map will be at a significant advantage compared to Alliances who try to maximize on difficulty on the map. A single repeat Defender means sacrificing an entire fight’s worth of Attack Bonus and then some in chasing those extra kills. Plan smart, win big! And of course you’ll want to make sure you can complete the whole map, so make sure to have everyone participate. Get in there, and fight bigger and badder bosses!
SOLO EVENT CHANGES
Because we want to reward participation in Alliance War for a
BIG event such as this, we made sure to give a facelift to the Solo Event to get players excited and engaged in Alliance War (this isn’t a permanent addition, but elements of this Solo Event may come back in time). This is broken down into
Story Progression Tiers, with a special focus on
Rank Up Materials for players to use to enhance their rosters.
Each fight won this season grants 40 points to this Solo Event. What do those points earn you? Let’s look at the breakdown…
VALIANT
PARAGON
THRONEBREAKER
CAVALIER
BIG rewards for defeating those
BIG THINGS! Get in there, and fight the battle of a lifetime and earn those Rosters Rank Ups. If you are quick on the draw, move up in the Story to earn better and better rewards before the Solo Event kicks off!
SEASONAL REWARD CHANGES
As you no doubt have heard,
Radiance is the new currency type that we’re rolling out in competitive modes, and Alliance War is no exception. For Season 58, we’ll be rolling out new
Seasonal Rewards for players! All the Seasonal Rewards we saw before will now be rolled into the store to allow players to pick and choose what matters to them most. Do you need
Rank-Up Materials? Earn Radiance and pick the ones you need!
Shards? Jump into the Radiance Store! Radiance will replace everything in the listed Tiers except Titles and Shatter Tokens.
You are in charge of your MCOC destiny! What does the breakdown in rewards look like? This is what we’re gonna see!
These changes will apply to anyone that is in Gold 6 and above. If you are in Silver 1 and Below, you will retain your previous Seasonal Rewards.

This is an exciting time for war, and
these Radiance additions will be permanent for Alliance War even after
BIG THINGS. If you are curious about what this Radiance will get you, please visit this
Forum Post for details on the Radiance Store!
TACTICS
For this run of Alliance War, there will be no Tactics. That will come in Season 59. For this, we want you to concentrate on the new map design, the new node combinations, and plan for execution on this map!
