Heart Of Fire. Absolutely massive swing and a miss

Let me start off by saying I'm still on the fence, but I'll probably still get Dark Phoenix as I already have pretty much all the necessary units.

My only question to Kabam is why? For what reason?

You literally had everything lined up perfectly. We were so close to perfection, you literally would have had to go out of your way (you did) to kill the hype for this entire event.

Over the course of the month, this was something the community at large was extremely hyped about; every social media platform was buzzing with speculation and advice. Community engagement was all centered around the speculation of which SIX champions would be in this crystal because that was the expectation you set (more on this in a minute), and players were grinding away, managing resources, spending money on the red and dead sale, all in preparation for this event.

From the outset, the event was advertised as 6 champions entering the 7-star pool in an event similar to Omega days from last year. Okay, let's break this down.
It was not outright stated that all 6 would be in the crystal, however, we had negative reason to expect this as the comparison was immediately made to Omega Days, an event where 6 champions (One of each class) would be in this special crystal that we could open to have a chance at all of them with some goodies in a solo event along the way.
If you were going to only have 5 champions in the pool this should have been advertised up front, immediately. It makes the community feel cheated and lied to despite not having anything explicitly promised.
To add icing on the cake, you put Galan (who should've been the 6th champ) into the titan, leading everyone to believe that we would get at least a cosmic in this event somewhere around that level, leading to even more speculation and hype around the cosmic kings which EVERYONE was excited for any one of them to come to the game finally because they are all beloved champions.

You knew, you saw the hype and the excitement in the community, you stated as much in the livestream, yet you still went through with the rug pull and patted yourselves on the back for keeping it a secret live in front of everyone. I have no idea what the thought process or expectation was with this. I'm sad that I lack the talent to be able to come up with such an underhanded left field decision to dunk on everyone and squash the hype. This should have been such a good will and exciting event for the game, but it has been squandered.

I'm not even going to get into the absolute crapshoot of the 6th champ being Dark Phoenix of all things, AND having her be a meta defender on top of that.

I'm not even mad, I'm just disappointed, frustrated, and maybe a little embarrassed for everyone for getting the rug pulled out from under us so spectacularly. We always want to give Kabam the benefit of the doubt and hope that they will do better, be better, and improve for the sake of the game, the community, and themselves and it feels like every single time we get to a point where everyone is happy and excited there's always some absolutely baffling decision coming in as a buzzer beater to steal the game away. It makes me (maybe us) feel dumb for supporting you and believing.

Screw it, just put unbuffed Groot in the crystal, at least that way we'll have a cosmic and some people will find joy in taking him up as a joke.

If she is as strong of a defender as they say then yeah I don't really have a choice if I want to stay competitive in BGs that's the only game mode I play consistently these days.

If I ban her every single match sure, but I already have to ban r3 Serpents Enchantress and Photons every single match cause I still don't have any of them as 7* I don't want every BGs match to turn into pick your poison lol
I mean bg banning is literally picking your poison, it's deciding which champions you would feel the least comfortable with the opponent having access to them. You could also just like, learn how to fight her? If you're competitive enough in bgs to justify spending on this event then I refuse to believe that you don't have a counter for her in your kit
You can't play around that safeguard without a counter and she's nullify stagger and neutralize immune already so we'll see, there's also the nova flame which requires either poison or high energy resistance, she is by no means Serpent level but she will be meta relevant and the 4.5/5 is fitting. What bothers me the most tho is them locking her behind a massive unit spend, I don't think they should be locking strong 4.5/5 defenders with a lot of potential to be meta behind huge paywalls cause it's just not fair for other people who aren't in a position to spend a lot. If I have to I will, but I know there are people who won't because they can't. They should've just kept her in the crystal, doing what they did was completely unnecessary and makes them look hungry for people's pockets.
Her nova flame specifically gets reduced by hitting into her after a special and she is countered by atrophy after the first safeguard. There's nothing in her kit that is impossible to counter and honestly if you're worried about her meta potential then literally just ban her. She looks easier to counter than serpent was on release and it's hard to look at her shaking up the meta because you can bring counters to her or ban her, that's how the game works. You're also going for her no? So all this talk about her being unfair I hope means your aren't going to be using her lmao

Player A spends time "playing BGs to earn high level rewards", and criticizes Player B wasting time "playing Arenas to earn Units." Player A insults Player B by calling "Arenas a no-life game mode".

Looking at it from another angle, Player B can criticize Player B for wasting time "in a niche game mode", and Player B insults Player A by calling them a "BG sweat".

Player C can then insult both Player A and Player B by saying "you're wasting all the time you spend commenting on the forums, when that could be instead used to play the game".

This game is a hobby/pasttime for people, so get off your high horse about whether players spend a lot of time or a little time, and in whatever game modes. "No life-ing arena" is no different from someone "sweating BGs", just like how outside the game someone can "no life fantasy football" or any other hobby. At the end of the day, the game isn’t ready for 7 Star Hulkling, Hercules, or Cosmic Ghost Rider - and we didn’t feel like any other yet to be released Cosmic was in the right spot for this Event. There was a period of time we discussed adding Carnage to the Crystal so there would be one Champion per class.

Would that have made this event better?

Ultimately, I felt very strongly against putting an objectively less than desirable Champion in this Crystal, and creating the possibility of a lesser experience for Players opening 1-2 Crystals, simply to have one Champion per Class - so I pushed pretty hard against that.

The way I see it, is that this keeps the Crystal loaded with Champions at the top of their Class for players engaging lightly in the event, while guaranteeing one of the 6 for those going all the way to the end - on top of the Selector that gives a copy of one of the other 5 - creating a much better chance to walk away with all 6 Champions.
I don’t understand. Archangel was a very strong character and limited as a 5* until mid-late 2020. You know who was also around by 2020? Apoc, CGR, Crossbones, Dr. Doom, Domino, Human Torch and more!

Honestly, this is feeling like a pass for me. Which is fine. I'm sure some will really enjoy it. For me, it's just too geared towards spending, and there's already a number of pay things going on. No shade, I get it. I wish Dark Phoenix was more accessible though. I waited 8 years or so since I first saw her, if memory serves. That's what I wanted most.

This event just has exclusive champs as its appeal and nothing else. I get that exclusive is a big appeal but to make it cost as much as july and cyber (and more than banquet) is a low blow to most .

Different events will have different spending thresholds. We just had an event where we could pretty much choose any* champ for free. That was very different from July 4 or Christmas.

Yes, in terms of sheer volume, you're not getting much for your 36k units here. Certainly I think on J4th that will get you two R4 gems and other stuff.
But it won't get you elite defenders like NF and DP, which is why I see a connection between the release of the radiance store and this HOF event centered around these two champs (and to some extent FAM as well).
It's like, you want that radiance? Here's a huge edge for your BG roster.

Its not as much of an edge as youd think as apparently DLL stated the champs wont be exclusive to HoF in a youtube video. Its just to get the champs "quicker" than others.

I would have loved to see Cull Obsidian in this crystal. He would not have been a disappointment at all.

At the end of the day, the game isn’t ready for 7 Star Hulkling, Hercules, or Cosmic Ghost Rider - and we didn’t feel like any other yet to be released Cosmic was in the right spot for this Event. There was a period of time we discussed adding Carnage to the Crystal so there would be one Champion per class.

Would that have made this event better?

Ultimately, I felt very strongly against putting an objectively less than desirable Champion in this Crystal, and creating the possibility of a lesser experience for Players opening 1-2 Crystals, simply to have one Champion per Class - so I pushed pretty hard against that.

The way I see it, is that this keeps the Crystal loaded with Champions at the top of their Class for players engaging lightly in the event, while guaranteeing one of the 6 for those going all the way to the end - on top of the Selector that gives a copy of one of the other 5 - creating a much better chance to walk away with all 6 Champions.
I would have loved to see Cull Obsidian in this crystal. He would not have been a disappointment at all.

He actually would be a very sensible 7* addition due to block proficiency stat focus.
