Would putting a buff immune on this node keep the attacker from getting charges, therefore making it very difficult to defeat? Or would the immunity just count as failing to happen because of ability accuracy?

The way I read it, putting a buff immune defender on that node would be pointless. The only way it would benefit you defensively is if they brought a champ that placed debuffs on the defender, and it would be an incredibly easy choice to not do that. You want a champion that gains buffs and gains them as annoyingly as possible.
