Forum mute button function

So I just noticed this mute function that I didn't know was there. But what exactly does placing a thread/post on "mute" do? Will it stop said thread/post from showing at the top even after more people comment on it?

And special thanks to pixelmacow for making me notice it. Just hope that it works in ways I think it does.

It stops you from seeing the user's individual posts, but you can still see the threads on the forum page. One good thing about this new forum appearance is that you can see who started a thread, instead of just seeing the last poster's name, so you can safely ignore threads by someone you don't want to look at posts by, like pixie mccocopuffs.
