Recoil damage from beast

Is there a reason I'm suffering damage when I use a special against beast? I'm in act 5 chapter 3 and have noticed this when I fight him. I do not have recoil mastery, and I have not read it on the node or beasts abilities.

Is due to his ability when switching modes. Switching to freestyle mode will cause direct damage.
But that was confirmed as a bug months ago
