It's time to add 6-champ teams, and here's why & how to keep it "balanced"...

(I say "balanced" because who knows how fair some people would consider this, or would actually be)

The contest is getting older and older. In the last two years we have had the difficulty cranked by adding 5 star champs, and when we needed harder content, uuuuuuh 6 star champs? Yeah, just keep increasing that number!

Event quests used to be one difficulty, then there were three, and now we have Uncollected in the mix as well.

Acts 4 and 5 have been introduced, new masteries have been added, but there are two things that still haven't increased:

The Level 60 player cap, and a team limit of 5 champions.

The reasons for boosting the player's level cap from 60 are obvious, but more likely if/when new masteries are introduced, right? If everyone's level 70, at that point, you pretty much all have the same masteries. Less fun. So, boosting the levels without masteries doesn't make the most sense, if the goal is for people to play and build their strengths differently.

So, that leaves the team size limit. Make it 6. At the very least, it give everyone an opportunity to play with more synergies - synergies which, btw, are becoming more beneficial only to specific characters (like Stark-Tech Spidey and Iron Man) rather than the team as a whole. Adding a 6th gives us more opportunity to have good synergies which might start getting swallowed up by these individualized ones.

It would also change how people play, and yeah that means make things a little easier - who doesn't want a little extra power gain, ability accuracy, or crit? Adding a 6th would grant all of these things.

But, if I'm effectively suggesting "make the game easier" then there should be a way to balance it out or do something to prevent everyone from adding a 6th to their team and blitzing through harder content that other summoners worked hard to complete with only 5 paltry champs.I see three options...
  1. Introduce levels 61-70, which do not give out mastery tokens. Once the summoner has achieved level 70, they get their 6th team member slot opened up. If/when new masteries are introduced, THAT is when you give out mastery tokens to all summoners who have already or will advance through these new levels
  2. Require the summoner to have an Total Base Hero Rating of XXX,XXX before the 6th slot opens up. Yeah, you may have a healthy roster of 4/55 5-star characters, but you sold all of your 1, 2, 3, and some 4 stars to do it? Well, then your Total Rating is too low. Shouldn't have done that ... keep saving those champs! This doesn't just reward the strongest players, but the ones who value a large roster from all star values.
  3. Require the team to have a certain strength before the 6th slot opens up. Regardless of Base Hero Rating, your team of 5 must hit a combined PI of XX,XXX before the 6th slot opens. If you have a team whose total PI is, say, 30,000 then you'll get a notice that a new slot has opened and you may now add a 6th champ. This rewards the strongest, yes, but then there is also no guarantee that the champs needed to break that threshold are the ones you like most. Adding that 5* Kamala Khan you never wanted might boost your PI just enough to allow you to add a 6th champ to take advantage of all these delightful new synergies. And now? Now you're playing with Kamala in harder runs, and might actually care about her since you're almost forced to use her, eh? Colossus doesn't look too bad now that he can use his various synergies with Magik, Juggernaut, and Unstoppable to bring you up just enough to add a 6th man.

You can keep it somewhat more balanced by excluding the option from war, or ... OR ... you bring in 6 defenders to war, but your 6th is on the sidelines as an alternate. Officers have the ability to swap your alternate in and out with your other champs. "They brought Magik in as an alternate, but Unstoppable Colossus as a primary defender? Lemme fix that..." they'll think.

War would also require another modification: everyone in your alliance gets 6 champ teams, or doesn't. It all depends on everyone, so even weaker players who normally wouldn't have access to this feature yet would benefit. And, of course, your war matchups would only be with other teams with the same roster. Too weak to be a 6-champ alliance? You're paired with another 5-champ alliance, and all the 6-champ alliances are left battling each other.

I love all of these ideas 👍. I don’t work for kabam so it doesn’t matter much but I still like the ideas
