Is there any way that there can be something changed so that before a war starts you can change out placed heroes?

    Meaning what? Officers and Leader can swap the champ placement, even you can do it by swapping to an empty tile.

    Leader and officers can move them around to different nodes but I don't think you can change out the champions once you join. Such as if you placed a champ as a defender and you all of a sudden want to use that champ as an attacker it's too late.
