Why can you parry/special a jump kick (medium) champion at the end of a combo?

Ex: Spider-Man Classic/Symb, Black Bolt, etc?
I've always wondered this. At the end of a combo, there is a delay between the second to last hit and the last hit if it's a medium and a jump kick.
If timed right, you can be parried or have a special activated against you.
