Thanos stunned but still has Genesis Aura

I'm using a team including BW and Hulk on Thanos, and when the stun from the synergy takes effect Thanos is stunned, but still has an active aura so I can't go in to attack when he's vulnerable.
I also think, but I'm not sure, that when AA stuns when his neurotoxin ends this is also happening.
Is it only a stun that is a direct effect of an attack (like Hulk SP1/2/3 or Hyp SP2) or parry that breaks the aura?
