How to change alliance privacy

I was able to get a member in while the alliance was closed. Now when I send an invite people say they cant join because alliance is "closed". I don't know how one member was able to join while the alliance was close but now I need to know how to change it to "by request". I am an officer btw.

    How does the leader change it, I was promoted to leader and don't know how.

    In the main menu, go to the Alliance tab and tap on the square containing the description:

    Then in the next screen, you have the privacy setting
