Pause Problems

I just lost my streak in arena from pause not working. Lost my first fight, and on the third I paused to respond to a chat message and the fight continued in the background and I died.

iPhone 6s Plus
iOS 10.3.3
Feature Arena
I was playing 4* Mordo against 4* Yondu
