2015/2016 Rank up gems!

So I had 2015 and 2016 mutant 3-4 rank up gems. I planned to use on colossus (2015) and OML (2016). My mistake was ranking colossus first and it used the 2016 gem. I asked kabam and they said they couldn't do anything because of strict policies. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I wasnt looking for the infamous "rankdown" tickets. Perhaps an exchange of 2015 to 2016 Rankup gem?

    the issue is generally if you level them up afterwards their policy is it was obviously not intentional, so they wont do anything.
