The problem with niche scenrios
This is mainly a post for those new to the forums and those who are still curious.
Many people are curious as to what people mean when they say niche scenarios and some ar confused as to why it’s a bad thing, I mean it seems fine to have niche boss fights in act 6, it’s endgame right, you should only do it if you have a super deep roster right? Wrong.
The problem
The problem is that kabam put out a piece of content, maybe something like Act 6, that many people have been waiting a long time for only for that content to only have a few select counters. In act 6 for examples the attack values mean that you need somebody who doesn’t rely on parries or who has very high block proficiency, the nodes mean that you can only play in a certain way and the fights themselves limit it to mean that only a few select mechanics are feasible. In the end you find that the counters to act 6 are Ghost, Quake, Dr Doom, Cap IW, Thing, Stealth Spidey, Sunspot, Ægon and Sym supreme. This isn’t good. In a crystal pool of over 170 champions just 10 usable characters in pivotal content such as act 6 means that 1/17th of champions can be used for the majority of the biggest content in the game.
Why is this a problem?
When rewards are based so heavily on RNG it seems as if most of the game isn’t worth it. So what, you wait for a year to pull 3 of these 10 characters, and using them you clear through act 6, taking time, effort, energy and possibly money and then what, you are rewarded with trash after trash after trash and EVEN if you do get what you are looking for, you get the perfect 6* and the right T5CC to go along with them you get a tiny boost from 6* R2 to 3. Eventually the game reaches a point where the waiting and grinding just isn’t worth it.
The Solution
The grandmaster fight is a perfect example of the solution, fights that can be done theoretically with any champion and a lot of skill. We shouldn’t need to rely upon 10 champions to do the game for us, there should be more good champions with viability in endgame content.
In act 3 literally anybody can take out Thanos
In act 4 anybody with good damage can take out Mæstro
In 5.2 anybody with some good damage can take out the collector (even though he’s near impossible to one-shot)
In the end of Act 5 careful play and good strategy can take out Ultron
In 6.2 you need sym supreme, stealth spidey, thing, she hulk or the new sorcerer supreme. Try it with anybody else, i dare you.
It seems as as we go on the fights become less skill oriented and more money/roster size based.
