Prossefor x synergies

Hi! I got very lucky and got a professor x 5*! After trying him and his synergies several time in different quest, it seems to me that his main synergy that gives 25% more dammge on special for every mutant or x-men doesnt really work..
Can this be? If some of you had the same feeling please let me know

Are you trying it with mutants that already have Prowess/other effects inceasing their sp damage?

I tried with, magneto red, domino, sunspot, and phoenix. Now that you asked, it seems that it worked with magneto but not really with the other (especially domino).
Does it mean that the synergie gives X% more damage on special attacks only if the mutant/x-men has a prowess buff on?
