I was just thinking wouldn't it be great to have in the game Captain America with mjolnir, The strength of Captain America with powers of Thor wouldn't it be a great champion to have in the game?

As much as I liked this bit, I hope it will never happen. Enough re-skins. Total props to Kabam for introducing two lesser-known champs next month instead of another re-skin like this month.

How useful are the originals of those champs these days? The different versions are kind of fun IMO. To each their own though. They have an Endgame Cap in Future Fight and they recently altered his costume and animations from early on in the movie, to the end. Mjolnir and all! It's pretty schweet to be honest. Giving Rogers both his shield and that hammer... oh man that'd be fun in CoC.

I get that people want to see more 'new' characters that haven't been added in some manner of speaking. I'm all for that too. A 'bit of both!' 😜 If we didn't have the variants of already introduced characters, we wouldn't have CAIW, IMIW, SES, Captain Sparkles, Gulk, etc. Sure, there have been less than ideal variants too. Not every champ can be a God (or even relatively useful in some cases, lol) in the game afterall. However, I was also super stoked when I saw Namor come in. Loving that they're brining Warlock and Sunspot in. Also looking forward to the inevitable release of Mr. Fantastic! Hopefully the Surfer too.

The end point being, what's wrong with a bit of both? Kabam in my opinion actually does a pretty nice job of balancing the new new champs with new variants of preselected champs. I get that some would wish to see more in the way of new faces vs rehashed versions of characters that have already made their way into MCoC. Just the same, there's obviously many who would love to see more variants. Without the variants, those older face would be subjected to falling into obscurity until the day they get a rework, if that ever comes.

I also play Future Fight, but in that game the re-skins are quite literally that- re-skins. It’s a gimmick of the game, and if they operated the game like CoC, there would be many, many times (think 4 or 5 times) as many characters to collect. In addition, in FF it is harder to get characters to begin with. The last, and most important difference is that FF already has a massive range of heroes and doesn’t need to worry about adding unique characters nearly as much as CoC, because they have characters that most players have never heard of before. That was a major reason why I downloaded FF to begin with.

Ppl that have the retired champ could trade in the champ for a new crystal and get extra shards or resources based on its rating. If u collect champs u could keep the old champ and still use him if u want but the basic crystal wouldnt have him in it anymore. This way there would only be at most a couple versions of the same champ. Its already hard enough to pull a specific champ the way it is. We dont need 4 or 5 Captain America versions in the game as an example.

I think if you think there is a "correct number" of champions for this game, it is probably a bad idea to invest time and energy into it. Kabam is no more going to stop making new champs, or start deleting old champs, than the world is going to decide to stop creating new books or start eliminating old ones so everyone in the world can read everything. Games like this are designed to attract completists, but explicitly implemented to foil them.

We add two new champs a month, about 25 in a year. If this game lasts for another ten years, that would be 250 new champs. I would bet anything that no one at Kabam will ever think some number lower than that is problematic enough to stop adding champs or start deleting champs. If anything, I think if the game lasts that long they will eventually start adding segmented crystals that allow players to target sets of champs, like a crystal that has the first five years of champs or all mutant champs or things like that.

But to stop adding or start deleting? Game developers are not inherently predictable, but I'll take that bet any day.

I see this as a matter of degree, not difference. I don't see, for example, the 616 Nick Fury and the Ultimates Nick Fury as just "different versions of the same character" any more than I see Miles Morales just another version of Spiderman. And it isn't just about names: that way lies the madness of Ben Riley and the Spider clones.

The MCU Peter Parker and the 616 Peter Parker are two completely different characters, with different lives, different back stories, and even (slightly) different powers. On a meta level, we can recognize that both were inspired by the same original character, the original Spiderman that lived in the 1960. But to me, they are different characters, equally deserving of being in the same game.

The movie Into the Spiderverse plays on the notion that there's all these different "incarnations" of Spiderman, but in one sense they are all Spiderman and in another sense they are all completely different people. I tend to see all the different MCOC Spidermen, Ironmen, and Captain Americas in a similar light.

Well, maybe not so much a lot of the Ironmen, because they are reskins in actual fact. But the others, less so, and especially all the Spider-people. I'm all for Spiderman, Stark Enhanced Spiderman, Miles Morales, and Spidergwen being in the game. I think Iron Man, Iron Patriot, and Superior Iron Man are too close to reskins to be a good idea today (I understand why they were added in the early days). But as long as the characters are distinct, and the game champion implementations are also sufficiently distinct, I don't mind having different "incarnations" of a core character in the game. I actually think it's an entirely reasonable thing to do that for the more widely beloved characters.

I also play Future Fight, but in that game the re-skins are quite literally that- re-skins. It’s a gimmick of the game, and if they operated the game like CoC, there would be many, many times (think 4 or 5 times) as many characters to collect. In addition, in FF it is harder to get characters to begin with. The last, and most important difference is that FF already has a massive range of heroes and doesn’t need to worry about adding unique characters nearly as much as CoC, because they have characters that most players have never heard of before. That was a major reason why I downloaded FF to begin with.

Let me just clarify, I was using that for imagery only. The games are MILES apart in design short of being Marvel games. The costumes do change the animations and in many cases make the character more useful in my experience. I'm not entirely sure why you think getting characters in FF is difficult as I have a pretty expansive roster for the little time I've put into it. 100% F2P. Very little in the way RNG and more about earning things. Plus they also give a LOT away. However, that's a whole other thing. Getting back on topic now.

If you go skim the Character Suggestions thread, there's a slew of new characters, AND variants of characters that already exist. Truth is, they're desirable. People want them. It's an undeniable fact as this thread exists. A thread mentioning the Endgame Captain America with Mjolnir. Now, some are tired of the variants. It is what it is though. They release far more new faces than variants in total so I really don't see an issue with it. They don't release them en masse as there's a LOT of work that goes into each character design these days. At their current rate, it's already hard to keep up when collecting if you're F2P.

Other truth is, the MCU is a major new fan gathering tool for Marvel. So naturally those fans want to see the characters as they appeared in the movies in this game. Even the comic fans like myself can appreciate them. Not everyone, but you really can't please everyone either. So Kabam does their best to cater to all. The upcoming EQ will focus on 2 not so known Marvel Characters, which is awesome! Very much looking forward to seeing how Warlock and Sunspot function. I also wouldn't be opposed to seeing the aforementioned Endgame Cap, or another heavily mentioned variant, Thor wielding Stormbreaker be added to CoC down the road. May never happen though.

Also, as previously mentioned by @DNA3000 , many of the variants are notably different (well said sir, the whole of it). For example, Captain America. CA and CA WWII are virtually identical in many ways, essentially a reskin. However, Beardo (CAIW) is a whole different experience when playing. I would wager if Kabam went through the trouble of adding Endgame Captain America wielding Mjolnir, he'd also be NOTABLY different than the rest. The original slew of Iron Men as previously mentioned are essentially reskins. However, IMIW is once again a whole different experience when compared to IM, SIM, or IP.

I see nothing wrong with the newer version being their own play experience. Captain Marvel and Ms Marvel (the Danvers version) are again, essentially reskins. Captain Marvel (Movie) is miles apart from her counterparts. As long as they have unique abilities and animations, I'm all for variants. As long as they keep the majority interested, I don't see Kabam quitting on making new variants. I'd also love to see an updated Black Widow and Scarlet Witch down the road too. Chances are, we'll eventually see such as MCoC is also a means of promoting the MCU movies. Naturally that means we'll be seeing more variants as we go. Considering what's been announced, we may see another Doctor Strange down the road too. Which would be a welcomed addition in my eyes.

Wity suggestion of retiring champs it would create profit from the new versions of the characters. They wouldnt be losing money having to buff all the older versions of the champs. Why would that be a bad idea?

Because you're wrong about what everyone wants. A very large number of players will get upset when you start deleting old champions because they play the game explicitly to collect the champions. Also, the vast majority of players can't play the champions with maximum efficiency, and thus have no specific desire to have old champions reworked and probably wouldn't benefit much if they did. This whole "everyone wants old champions buffed to be like new champions and doesn't want to have to collect more new champions" is an echo chamber of the forums, which self-select players more vocal about performance instead of general gameplay.

The players who like to collect champions tend to stick around, and the players that don't like to keep going after new champions indefinitely tend to eventually quit. And the introduction of 6* champions boosted that impetus. There will always be players that concentrate on performance, but they will always be a small percentage of all players for this reason. The game encourages collectors to keep collecting, and it keeps marginalizing players who want to just stop chasing and use what they have. Because games as a service are all about the chase. That's ultimately who they make money from.

@DNA3000 i never said anything about deleting any champ. I said the players that have the older champs can keep them. New players on the otherhand wouldnt be able to get the older versions. They all would be collecting the new versions which increases kabams revenue. The older players would then have a champ new players could never get. That would be an incentive to collect more champs because u wouldnt know when kabam would remove the next batch of outdated champs. They wouldnt have to waste money buffing a champ like collosus that alot of ppl already have so they wont be maximizing profit compared to a new version of collosus that nobody has yet.

Maybe it is a stupid idea. I just was trying to find a way to make new versions of existing champs. I personally dont care for 5 or 6 versions of the same character. Especially when most ppl would agree that 3 or 4 of the versions nobody uses.

That would kill the idea dead in its tracks right there. Tell new players they can't get the old champions, and they would say you're unfairly locking them out of content they should be allowed to have. This notion that everyone thinks like you, and just wants to build a team of few powerful champions, is simply wrong. This game is first and foremost a collectors game. Tell collectors there are champions they can't collect, and you might as well shut the servers down now: that's a suicidal business model.

Tell me how many ppl love pulling kamala khan? Would they rather have a version of her that is more enjoyable and up to date with the game today. A champ from 2015 wasnt designed for todays content. The game has completely changed since then. I am not saying every champ should be godlike. I would like every champ to be able to handle todays game.
