Not necessary, an alliance member of mine has a rank 5 ghost, doom, sun supreme, rank 4 guillotine 2099 and rank 5 blade and ran through act 6 completion, he's now done and he has only 6 or 7 6 stars and all of them very underwhelming characters like juggernaut, DPXF etc, so thronebreaker is still some way off for him

Let me put it this way. If you see the single r3 requirement has high, you're probably not in the target audience for Thronebreaker. The actual intended target for Thronebreaker are players who would not blink an eye at that requirement. If it is a stretch for any player, they are not just outside the target audience, they are way outside the target audience.

Show us your 6* roster and what t5cc you have. There is almost no way you finished act 6 and dont have a worthy option. Everytime i see people say this and ask for their roster it almost always turns out what they mean is they dont have a ghost or corvus

My six stars are : falcon, ronin, vtd, storm, imiw, Morningstar, carnage, kingpin, rr, ds, and BB. There are some decent options but I don't think any of them are worth r3.

It's more targeted towards accounts with 50+ that have 100% Act 6 and Abyss.

That may be true for a r1. A r3 however is much different. Trust me as the owner of one i place her above doom for a reason. She becomes such a beast its almost ridicilous at times

There are a couple ways to do it. Doing high(er) tier AW is probably the more conventional way. I don't, so I make up for it by being a prolific arena grinder, which is actually the hard way around.

Let's start with what any Cavalier player could do. Cavalier exploration + Uncollected exploration gets you 7500 6* shards. This month's side quest contains a total of 5000 6* shards. So you're up to 12500 shards.

I'm an arena grinder. This means two things. First, it means I'm getting 6* shards from the arena. 300 per 5* featured, because I can get to 1-5%. That's 600 per week, or 2400 per month. So that's 14900.

Also because I'm an arena grinder, I generate units. 5k-6k a month on average, sometimes more. So I can take advantage of the Cavalier completion offer, which has contained 5k 6* shards so far every time for the cost of 2975 units. That takes me to 19900.

I also have a pretty large 5* roster, which means most of my 5* crystal openings are dups. I probably get at least 1500 6* shards per month in 5* duplication if not more, but conservatively that's now 21400. In fact i probably get slightly more than that due to things like Cav crystals (which I no longer buy, but I still get) and other crystals occasionally spitting out champion shards. But I'm not counting any Thronebreaker-specific rewards.

That's what I do. But there are other opportunities as well. The incursion store contains basically 6k 6* shards every 90 days, or about 2k a month in theory. I don't do incursions often, but I do them occasionally. I can't max out that, but someone who did Incursions reasonably often could add 2k 6* shards per month.

Alliance war contains 6* shards although you have to compete at a relatively high level. Tier 5 and above gets you 6* shards per victory. Gold 2 and higher get you 6* shards in season rewards. A season is a month and a half (one month on, two weeks off) so those rewards should be averaged out over 1.5 months. Its about 670 6* shards per month for Gold 2 and 1670 6* shards a month for Gold 1. Any reasonably strong alliance competing with three battlegroups should be able to get at least Gold 2, if not Gold 1. The platinum and master alliances are pulling in really big chunks of 6* shards. The opportunity here is for anything between 670 6* shards a month and a whopping 20k 6* shards a month (for the Master bracket).

I should point out here that while I hate AW more than the next guy, the Platinum alliances and higher are the top 800 alliances, which is on the order of the top 2% of alliances that are active in alliance war at all (based on looking at the lowest season brackets at the end of the season). Thronebreakers meanwhile are probably the top 1% of players or less. So it isn't completely wild to suggest that a large percentage (but certainly not all) Thronebreakers might be sitting in P4 or higher alliances.

None of this specifically requires spending, although of course a significant percentage of Thronebreakers probably also spend. But I can get to two 6* crystals a month without spending, and there are probably lots of Thronebreakers above me getting three or four without spending, and there are certainly lots of Thronebreakers that are averaging even more than three or four with spending.
