Abyss crystal pool?

I now have only one path left before abyss exploration. How does the class nexus pool work? Is it only those in the basic pool? I am leaning towards mutant but would like a shot at apocalypse.

    Only champions in the basic pool are in the abyss nexus.

    Its basic pool, but you can hold onto it till he's in it
