Some people are investing literally 1000’s of £\$ into this game, should they get a relevant percentage of compensation back based on their investments?

Money spent here is a transaction, not an investment. It does not accrue value. A spender is owed nothing more than the items they purchased.
No one wants the game to be broken. They don't, we don't, no one does. If it isn't resolved yet, then it's not resolved yet. However, money spent on the game isn't an investment. We don't buy shares into the company. It doesn't entitle people to receive more compensation.
Compensation is an equal thing between all summoners and sometimes given out based on what level of progression you are at in game. And that's how it should always be.
