This one is on you. You don't attack the AI just because it held block for a split second. They have always tried to bait like this for a long time. You wait till they hold the block for a good second.

2 year old video. You can see night crawler constantly dash back, hold block for a split second and then attack again.

As if the game isn't broken enough with the parry timing and random other engine issues, we have to deal with garbage AI like this? The Apoc fakes a block to draw me in to get blasted in the face?!?! I've spent years hitting blocks while trying to bait a special but now we have this junk? How are we supposed to think there is any integrity in playing this game in it's current state?

I hear you!! I got a special to the face mid combo in AW yesterday.
THAT is the most annoying and most ridiculous of all the things. I can never interrupt a combo from the defender yet somehow they can do it repeatedly now.
I've interrupted AI combo in power difficulties and Arena. With both specials and counter basic attacks

I'll see if I can dig up some old footage on YouTube that demonstrates the AI "block-twitch"

I think @DNA3000 is referring to NCs stance switch timer resetting even while he's holding block and you're hitting his block

Indeed he was but there is a direct reference to "block-twitch" within his text.
Just served to prove this is not a new mechanic or tactic for the AI

That's Nightcrawler and it's always been part of his kit with his timer for changing stances. That's an apples to hand grenades comparison.

Act 7.3🙂... In the middle of a combo while using tigra, annihilus combo'd me. I still can't understand why he'd go unstoppable when I did not dash back or when he is neutralized. Nope, no aar on the node. Can someone explain how this happened? 🙂

Twitchy block is definitely not new. Here’s a video of Cull Obsidian from 2 years ago.

Between 50 to 60 seconds in he does two separate block twitches - easy to see because of his massive tool:

    https://youtu.be/Kr8szzwYGFk

The twitch is more visible depending on the champion’s animation e.g. psycho man who was giving people headaches with his flashing lights on his block twitch.

    It’s the AI’s best shot at performing a parry/re-parry.

Both are champions performing basic actions. And no this is not exclusive to Nightcrawler. It's just the video I got. And it's not related to his timer either. He dashes back, hold block for a split second and then attacks again. Just like apoc in your vid

it shouldn't be normal specifically because as a player we can not execute a mid combo break/special etc.

Ai definitely special intercepting much more.
It’s caught me out a few times.
The ai has point blank refused to throw a special, slowly getting pushed back to the left side of the screen so go to hit block to bait/push defender back and boom, special intercept.
The ai shallow evades are annoying too.
Plus the unexpected ai parrying in AW.

To be honest, this particular combat action is something the AI has been doing for years. It was referred to as "a sporadic block" vs a "solid block" in an original Dork Lessons Ninja series video years ago. " Make sure the AI is holding a solid block before attacking...or you may be combo'd into oblivion.." Or something like that. Old school players may remember this. 🙂 Though, what's probably happening is that the AI isn't always punishing you, cause often it does not. So when it happens that 1/4 times, it seems odd. But it's always been a possibility this will happen when the AI is "blocking sporadically".

Now, that being said... I've absolutely noticed the AI becoming more and more crafty over the years. And, it will absolutely take advantage of it's near zero input time especially when it has a special loaded. For instance, in higher end content, we as players cannot punish a combo ender on our block if the AI has a bar of power. As soon as we attempt to punish it they will launch into a special animation with almost zero input delay (almost instantly as soon as the next input is available to them) immediately placing them in an invulnerable frame sequence so that our attack whiffs and we then eat the special... etc. There are several examples of this same technique the AI will use if it has a bar of power. Punish a heavy, etc. Or even if we attempt to punish a usually easily punishable special if the AI has another special loaded from a node such as Power Reserve.

AI should have embarrassed Kabam during the Asia summoner showdown. AI was so passive and fights ended with SP3s most of the time. AI is an issue. It's a balance. You don't want to make it too easy or it will be boring. But making it too hard is also it's own type of boring. Also AI can parry with pinpoint accuracy but we have parry issues ourselves.

Baiting specials is way harder now.
AI will hold specials depending on the champ. Whichever is the hardest special to handle that's the one that will be used. It really is very clever. AI is only doing what it needs to.

    Spite? Turtle time.

    Retuning is needed.

The AI could be programmed to make fights unwinnable with certain node combinations. How about we don't do that? Asia summoner showdown shows this. Best players in the world couldn't do it. No one could. Silly.

That block twitching AI has been around as long as I've been playing (nearly 5 years). If I'm going to dash in and hit into the opponents block, I found out a long time ago that you want the opponent to dash all the way to the end of the screen and be holding a solid block. If they are still standing in the "intersection" (as Dorky Dave refers to it) and block twitching like that, they are baiting you in.

You can check out Dave's instinctive touch videos from 2-3 years ago and see plenty of examples of the AI doing this.
