Why can't we sell champions? The roaster keeps on increasing due to champions of each level whereas it's very much painful to keep on upgrading them which evedently we also do not require. Can't there be a closed market place to exchange champions between players?

Selling Champions is no longer a thing because they wanted to make sure that people had full rosters across all star levels for any kind of content that comes up including special arenas and special side quests that have gate requirements.
In the past, people were selling their Champions off and then once they found out they needed them to get rewards, they flooded the forums complaining that they weren't given prior notice. Now they no longer let you sell your champions because they don't want you to make that same mistake again and people are complaining that they weren't given proper warning.
Secondly, your request to want to exchange Champions on a closed market system is essentially a black market. It will be abused, people's accounts will be negatively affected, it's never going to work and if you're pushing hard for something like this, that speaks more to your possible intentions rather than whatever idealized version you're trying to spin this into.
