I asked the same question as many as my fellow alliance members. I can understand why UC crystal has a chance at a 3*, but not cavalier. To the person who disagreed, please enlighten us oh mighty 1....
They are in their to balance the pulls. Newly cavalier are most likely still ranking 5* and just starting to get 6*. It does suck but that's the way the balance was chosen
I honestly don’t understand the “Balance” part of having 3*’s in there.
Most of the big guys spend loads of money and are far ahead of the rest. YouTubers get money from viewers to spend on crystals and unit packs. They’ll be far ahead as long as they keep getting money.
If they took out 3*’s from that crystal, how will that change anything. Those mentioned players will still open a butt load more than the rest. The ones that buy cav crystals with saved up units will still be ahead of the ones that aren’t cav yet.
Nothing changes, except we don’t get anymore 3*’s😂

The 3* are there for an artificial progression cap.
For instance it takes 36 4* dupes for a 5* basic. Or 18 dupes if they're max sig dupes.
The same for 5* to 6*.
Ontop of that the amount of ISO gained would also make the resource irrelevant, along with gold. Since everyone cavalier and above would guaranteed get 24 iso per crystal, which can be sold for 2500 per brick meaning 60,000 gold per dupe where the ISO is no longer needed.
This would dramatically increase progression in an unhealthy manner, where people would be able to just rank and level up all champs without every having to worry about having the correct resources outside of catalysts. While most people want this because it's less grind for them, the point for any game service is to keep people playing as much as possible through a grind. The moment Monthly Active Users starts dropping, is the point where a game goes into a slow decline. This is a problem that almost all major MMOs have, especially when there's an infinitely available resource to that's easy to obtain to aid in progression, people get to a stage where they've done all the grind they need to then stop logging in to play as often until a specific resource they need is available to get again.
You need to have a way to lose from gambling on those crystals. 3* champs are losing on your gamble, even a 4* would still be halfway decent between the shards and iso.
I was going to post this same question but I see someone has already beaten me to the punch. Thanks for the detailed explanation. I didn't see the logic behind having three stars in the cavalier crystal until now. I wish they could balance it out with something else instead, like grandmaster or ultimate crystal shards. For accounts that are cavalier or above, three stars serve no purpose whereas with four stars, at least you get 5 star shards and more ISO.
