Thoughts on adding Emotes to BG’s?

I feel like they’ll get turned into another toxic mechanic- hopefully you won’t be able to spam them and they aren’t overtly bad either

You earn additional emotes when you reach the GC, everyone will start with some and they can be used in the Victory Track.

I'm glad they are adding emotes as some way of communication because there are some matchups that I barely lost where I just wish I could congratulate my opponent on their outstanding gameplay. I also want a thanos emote where he says "I'm sorry little one" that I can use whenever I am facing someone who has a way smaller roster than me. I always feel bad when they have to face me.

Most people, myself included, have friend requests turned off in-game. Also, by the time they accept it, it would be forever after the match and would be kinda pointless. I much rather tell them right then and there

Some people have blocked their friend invites, and even if they haven’t their list might be full, or they just don’t notice early the request or they don’t accept at all.
These emotes are a faster and “on time” way to communicate with the opponent.
They sound fun to me 😛

Every game I’ve ever seen with a pvp and emotes; they are almost always used in an unsportsmanlike way. People just can’t help themselves. Even if there are no negative emotes; people will spam them or try to figure out sarcastic insults with them.

Another top game has them, and you’ll commonly see people spam “Good Game” and laugh emote over and over. Or when you make a mistake, they spam “Well Played”. Or when they know they have a stronger deck, they spam “Good Luck” followed by laughing. Or after they win, they spam the cry emote.

I hope this mute feature shows the opponent that emotes are muted (and even further that if one opponent has them muted; neither can use them). Because if it is just a one sided mute; people still attempt to use them in an unsavory way and develop a habit of doing so. This just breeds a growing toxic player base.

Get ready for daily debates and threads about emote usage. It will be the same arguments over and over. The “it’s rude and unsportsmanlike” crowd versus the “trash talking is strategy” crowd. And the “remove emotes” versus the “you can just mute them” crowd. It will forever divide the community; like it has in other games. One such game literally closed down their forum because this was the majority of the discussion.
