Deathless champions is a more successful version of Sagas than Sagas is
When Sagas was first announced, there was some marketing speak along the lines of "trying to tie together the various aspects of the game in a more cohesive manner."
After several months of the first Sagas, all I can tell is that there is:
1. Purple colors and icons that show up the different areas of the game
2. A Global boost that applies to certain champions, but don't meaningfully incentivize using champions that benefit (I have not thought about using an X-magica champion whatsoever, aside from doing one run for the Paragon EQ gauntlet objective)
3. Supposedly some narrative connective tissue, but as someone that doesn't really pay attention to the story in the game, this has no effect.
4. I am just playing the same game modes I would have played, with or without Sagas.
In contrast, with the upcoming start of the journey to a Third Deathless Champion:
1. Distinct visual design of unique champions that are rare (as defenders, or did not previously exist)
2. No Global Boost, but I have purposefully used Deathless Guillotine or Deathless King Groot for various content, even without any incentivization
3. Narratively, I am aware that the Deathless Champions are building towards an assemble the team type quest, with a reward of Deathless Thanos at the end.
4. I am purposefully engaging in different modes of games that I would not have without a Deathless piece being hidden there.
One might ask, "isn't the Saga quest for Nightcrawler the same as the quest for Deathless pieces?" I guess technically yes, but that is the rub - it matters how and what you present something. The way that Kabam has presented Sagas and Nightcrawlers just doesn't work in terms of making it feel like the different aspects of the game are connected. The way Kabam has presented Deathless champion chase does make it feel like the different aspects of the game can be connected.
Of course this is all subjective. The main thing is, I am still not sure what Sagas is supposed to be.
Tl;dr I am bewildered at how Sagas is supposed to be a new concept that is already being successfully done by the Deathless champion chase.
