Regarding defensive masteries

Does defensive masteries automatically apply if we have the checkmark box on? Or do we have to use units and change to defensive masteries then use units to change back to attack masteries?

If you have a Mastery Set specified (by checkmark) to be your AW Defense Masteries, then no you don’t need to switch ACTIVE masteries when changing AW Defense.
