Is Doom the next “event” champ?

Purely speculative but my hunch is that he will not be pullable if released. This unfortunately is adding a very frustrating angle to the game. Since Red Guardian and now Torch, I’m beginning to become apprehensive to do anything with my units because my favorite characters may be locked behind incredibly unit costs. I’m not sure if this was the intent but I do hope this era ends. I have absolutely no problem with unique champs like Dark Phoenix or Old Human Torch (for you newer players, he popped up in a quest awhile ago) having this kind of structure, but for just standard basic pool champs, it just feels discouraging.

I mean this not as a flex but of genuine critique, I’m at a place in my life where if I wanted, I could buy every single champ when these things happen, but I’m getting to the point where after just two of these, I’m starting to feel completely uninterested in these events because I know there’s going to be another in 2 months and, I don’t know, do I want to spend another grand on pixels again? I don’t know if this is how anyone else feels but I feel, at least for me, this is the wrong path. I’m a huge fan of the game, I want it to last, If this is working and the team knows it via purchase data and purchase trends, then this is completely a moot point, but if the calculus is trending downwards with regards to spending, relative to these events, that’s my take why.

You’re not the only one. Sale fatigue is becoming a legitimate concern for this game, and in all honesty, it’s taking a lot of the fun out of it for me.

I’d like Kabam to do 2 things for the community (which they won’t because it involves pro player communication..)

1. Be open with us around their strategy for releasing 6* locked champions. Is this approach here to stay? (I fear it is)

2. Be clear on their approach to releasing these 6* locked champs into the 7* crystal pool. Will that happen, and how long will it take post sale event?

These 2 things will at least allow people to plan their approach to unit/cash spend and help alleviate some of the FOMO.

Having events like these to me is ok. Refusing to have a release cadence into basic Pool or saying they don’t have plans of releasing them is what rubs me the wrong way. It’s ok to sell champs but at least release them to the basic pool in a year or so.

Mid on attack for BGs because he has a lengthy rotation you can't skip the animation, and then on defense his specials aren't really as hard to dex as they used to be when he first came out there are way harder to dex specials these days + many science nukes that don't care about his crit resistance and armor. If they were to do this kind of chase for the mystic class it's very likely it would be Abs Man or Claire who are very strong attackers still just not as relevant because they're 6* locked, people removed Doom from their decks before these two. I can however see Doom being the mystic champ for the next HoF type event.

But he’s still a great champ outside of defense, his power control is still among the best in the mystic class

Have they done that again since? Cause the last three paywalled ones are currently as meta relevant as it gets. They obviously stopped for a reason, we'll see if Cyberweekend has another outdated champ and maybe then you could make an argument for it but not for now.

Sure, spenders may overlap with players who focus on BGs, but the larger player base are non-BG players.

You keep citing "the meta" as a reason against Doom, when the majority of players focus is outside of the officially stated "niche" BG mode. One of the complaints about Human Torch by BG players is that HT doesn't work for all the metas because of chip damage, so that is already an argument against paywalled champions needing to be "meta" champions.

Just like how Human Torch for J4 coincides with the Fantastic Four movie, and Red Guardian with the spring offers synegized with Thunderbolts movie, Doom for 2026 HoF would have worked nicely had Avengers Doomsday stuck with their original release date.

He's not a good defender in 2025, the game has evolved a lot lol and the reason his power control was so good back then is because nobody had that much power control other than maybe Magik. We have champs with power steal who can control fights pretty well these days, his utility isn't this rare thing almost no other champ has anymore.
The only real use he has is questing and maybe the occasional war fight but that's it.

I don't necessarily disagree with that, but the last three chase champs they sold have been meta relevant, I didn't imply everyone plays BGs I simply stated a fact. Red Guardian, Dark Phoenix and Torch are all meta relevant and very strong currently. Dark Phoenix is a top defender (people spent hundreds getting Nico purely because of her), Torch while not as meta relevant as he was before still deletes the entire mystic class including Enchantress and Kindred so while I do agree with the chip damage part the truth is he is still going to be meta relevant to some extent, Red Guardian is just a nuke and that's it.

So, yes I agree, BGs isn't the only game mode but the trend so far has been BGs meta relevant champs. That might change or it might not but to me that's why Abs or Claire make way more sense than Doom for these events.

Doom sucks in bgs in 2025, I'm not going to suger coat it, But which other champ have actual good damage and can do Necro level fights without letting enemy throw a single special, except magik and quake? No one (Maybe guilly but that'll be too much blocked hits). That ability alone is Too op and doom will always be relevant.

She literally hits like a pillow, have great utility but definitely not the damage needed to end bg fights, unless you're a fan of timing out, she's going to be bad for bgs. I already explained in my previous comment if you actually read instead of malding lol I didn't say only BGs players whale out, ever. Claire has something only one other champ in the entire game has and that's easy access to buff immunity debuff, also if she did hit like a noodle she would've already been released. Her damage isn't crazy but she's not a noodle, you're overreacting cause you're mad that I said Doom wouldn't be final milestone worthy for one of these events more than Abs or Claire (for the record I do think even Claire is a bit of a stretch but if I had to pick between her and Doom then it's definitely her).

What's even more laughable is that you're putting him basically on the same tier as Kate, Scorpion, CGR and Kitty when some of these even with r4 7* in the game are still being used in BGs and war.

It is mid but she's not a noodle, and her utility is still extremely rare compared to Doom's. She also has way more utility even though yes she's not the fastest but finishing with 100% hp every fight, having triple immunity + easy access to power steal, and keeping the defender buff locked for a good amount of time is better than anything Doom can do with his rotation in BGs which is still lengthy or his utility which is basically power steal and nullify, and yes I am strictly talking about BGs now since you're saying she would suck for BGs, she definitely wouldn't suck as much as Doom.
