Haves and Have Nots.

A year on from 12.0 and we’re back to square one. The haves and have nots. There’s a 5 man team in this game that has practically no weaknesses.

Stark
Ghostrider
Archangel
Iceman.

I’m not calling for nerfs as I hope to get this team in the future. But literally everybody in the game is aiming for a select few champions. I’d go as far as saying that this team is just as powerful as the god tier pre-12.0 team, mainly because these guys can be maxed 5*s. After 22nd Feb when literally every mid to top tier player has opened as many Blade crystals as they can, they’re gonna have another 12.0 situation on their hands. It doesn’t seem as bad now while Blade (the new Scarlet Witch) isn’t in the basic 5*, but it’s coming.

What does everyone think? Are nerfs coming? Can this game survive another round of nerfs, after what happened the first time?

Maybe not 90%, but I agree in general on the strength of the team. But between you and me that's two players, and even all the forum posters and all the subreddit posters combined are a tiny percentage of all players. And we're not a representative sample of players either. For example, if all you read is the subreddit and the official forums, the obvious conclusion is that Dr. Strange is worthless and no one uses them. But I would bet anyone hard cash that if you looked at all players across the game, that would not be true. I would bet he was used at an average or above average rate. It doesn't matter why, it only matters that it happens. Similarly, I doubt anything is currently used to the same degree as SW was pre-12.0, or was as successful at running content across the entire spectrum of players from no skill to top skill.

I got your point just fine, you seem to have missed the point of my rebuttal, which is that we can only be in the "same scenario" if "the same scenario" is meaningful. You believe that it matters at all that we now have a really strong 5 champion team. My point is that it doesn't matter, because it never mattered before, because the nerfs had nothing to do with being able to construct a really strong five champion team.

That’s the thing, nobody knows what the devs think yet. They’ve always maintained that if adjustments are necessary they’ll make them, seemingly despite what the community wants.

I don’t want nerfs at all, I’d rather have something to aim for like before. Was great to finally get Scarlet Witch. Hopefully this time they don’t pull the rug out from under us when more people start to pull the God Tier 2.0.

(P.S. you say it doesn’t matter about constructing a 5 man team, it’s more dependent on unique, overpowered abilities. I believe it’s more dependent on Kabam’s wallet haha!)

I did not say it is dependent on unique overpowered abilities per se. I said it was dependent on unique overpowered situations. MMO developers do not generally nerf based on subjective opinions, not even their own. They tend to nerf when they have quantitative data that says nerfs are required. And the kind of data they tend to key off of is data related to how often (in this case) champions are used relative to others, how successful and efficient they are when they are used, and what percentage of all rewards earned in the game can be traced directly to their use. Across the entire playerbase.

It all comes down to rewards really. Everything is ultimately balanced around how much rewards it can earn for a player. The more often something is used, and the more effective it is when it is used, the more useful that thing is. And every MMO dev team has their own secret parameters that define "reasonable." A champion that earns twice the rewards of the average champion might be okay, but a champion that earns three times the average might be too powerful. A champion that is used three times more often than average (for players that possess it) might be fine, but a champion that is used ten times more often than average might not be.

I feel comfortable saving shards for Blade because MMO dev teams don't nerf based on what the top players shoot for most of the time. Nothing is certain in life, but Kabam is unlikely to nerf a champion that most players don't even have yet. Before Blade becomes game-breaking, he has to first be playable by more than a small percentage of players. So the way this works usually is first Blade has to get in the hands of a majority of players. And then those players have to abuse the heck out of him, using him everywhere far more often than any other champion. And then a large majority of players have to get really good at playing him. And then Kabam has to try to place roadblocks in front of Blade to make content that challenges him. *And then* if that fails they might consider nerfing him. By then it will be 2020 and something better is likely to come along.

No guarantees, but that's why I'm not worried about burning my 5* shards on shots at Blade. Not because I think he's immune from nerfs. But because by the time Kabam decides to nerf him I'll have had enough gameplay with him to make it worth it. And *even* if he is nerfed, its still just as likely the nerf will be on par with SW or Star Lord or Captain America, where all of them are still pretty good (compared to what they used to be).

Blade weakness: Power control champs. Vision will wreck him, for example.
Stark weakness: Cosmic champs
Ghostrider weakness: Hulk and probably Rulk now
Archangel weakness: Bleed or Poison immune champs
Iceman weakness: Rogue, Regen champs, and Mephisto

For every champ, there's a counter. It's the way the game has been shifting. A champ may be awesome in some circumstances but weak in others. Part of what drives the collection aspect of the game.

Those aren’t really weaknesses for the player. I’m saying that these are the “haves” for attacking purposes.
