I am currently 100% exploring Act 4. I’ve already completed the whole thing once and have 100% explored the first chapter. I have no energy refills and I don’t have any units to buy any due to spending units on masteries. I play arena but don’t find myself getting a lot of units out of the arena crystals I open. I run the basic arena, usually hitting 40-60% rank rewards. I am usually able to rack up about 20,000 battlechips before I decide to open 10 arena crystals and almost always get gold. Sometimes I get lucky and get 15 units out of 10 crystals.
Should I be playing arena more for more battlechips to open more arena crystals for units? Or should I be focusing on something else for units? Do you guys get a lot of units from arena? If so, how many do you get from a typical arena grind session? And do you buy energy refills? Let me know please! Thanks

When I first started MCoC, I did not like arena. It was a true grind. And then I had experiences like you with battle chips not really dropping a lot of units for me.
Then I took a long break. When I came back, I decided I would try to be as FTP as I could and that I would start being more arena active.
Once I started focusing on hitting arena minimums for as many arenas as I could, the milestone rewards gave me units and battle chips. And then I started opening battle crystals in 10 packs (20,000 BCs to purchase).
Units aren't a consistent drop... I've had a couple 10 packs in a row without units, but then you pick up 15, 40, 30... I've had a couple of more rare unit drops over 100 units, but I think it's a combination of hitting as many milestones as I can bringing me units and consistent unit drops from BCs get me enough units to do some questing.
With any RNG controlled game mechanic, increasing your sample size helps you battle through streaks of crappy RNG.
I'd recommend going for the first few milestones in all arenas.
For example, I always do 2 fights in Summoner Trials and 3 fights in the 3* arena. This gets me the first 2 milestones in each arena. At 5 units per milestone and 2 arena cycles per week, that's 40 units per week for doing 10 arena matches. This adds up to over 2000 units/year for what amounts to about 15 minutes of mindless effort per week. Plus, you'll be getting gold, shards, and battlechips. If you're not doing this already, I suggest starting.
Once your roster grows, you can start knocking out the milestones in the other arenas. But you can easily knock out the 2 easiest arenas before grinding in the 4* basic arena at a pretty early stage in your progression.
Take turns after you finish the fights... gotcha?
1: head to 2* arena and do your first three fights. Don’t continue after you finish your first three fights.
2: after doing your first three fights in 2* arena then head to 3* arena and do the same with your first three fights. Don’t continue after you finish your first three fights.
3: same thing after you finish your first three fights in 3* arena then head to 4* featured arena and do then same.
4: head back to 2* arena and repeat the process.
That way you allow your self to let your 4* highest ranked to rest well enough while you rotate and simultaneously finish all the milestones that gives you more faster increased units income.
This has happened to me 2 times now.
