Okay, something is wrong with Parry

I'm in the middle of Captain Marvel's event, and I start out the battle, but no matter what, I can't Parry at the start of the battle. I'm only on Sortie 3, where there's no fisticuffs nodes, and before people come in and tell me I can't Parry through
Unstoppable, this is before the first Unstoppable even triggers. Most times I'm forced to either quit the quest or buy another revive.
