As previously announced, the team will be distributing an additional point toward milestones to anyone who completed the Absorbing Man fight in the first step of the Winter of Woe.
This point will be distributed at a later time as it requires the team to pull and analyze data.

There is currently an issue where some Alliances are are unable to find a match in Alliance Wars, or are receiving Byes without getting the benefits of the Win. We will be adjusting the Season Points of the Alliances that are affected within the coming weeks, and will be working to compensate them for their missed Per War rewards as well.

Or you could have spent resources to buy a “Chair”.
So of course a Silver Surfer (or Galacticus, or whatever it will be) will have a perceived value to it.
You can't just argue that without the beacon we'd have got even more, because you can't be certain without the beacon there would have been no changes to the calendar at all. It is more likely that the calendar was restructured to make space for the beacon, and they decided to throw the 4* shards in to ensure the total calendar value didn't drop when the beacon was added.
This is completely separate from the fact that you can't argue that something they give away to everyone "penalizes" the players that don't want that thing. If you argue that, you're essentially saying that even working on the beacon penalizes all players that don't want it because it takes time away from the things they do want, and in effect everything the developers work on penalizes all the players that aren't interested in that one thing, and that makes the entire usage of the word "penalize" completely meaningless.
