Why is my Iron Man IW getting coldsnapped?

I am clearing the UC Stealth Spidey chapter today and having to face Iceman a lot. The fight starts off as it should... no coldsnap. However, when I get clipped by the SP1 I have about a 50% chance of incurring both coldsnap and a freeze charge (whatever they’re called) or two. Sometimes it tells me I’m immune... sometimes I get coldsnapped.
What am I missing?

Thanks, you two. I just got him from a login grandmaster crystal last week and brought him to rank 3 specifically for this chapter. Haven’t toyed with him much yet.
I should have reread his abilities first. Appreciate it.

But instead of using medium or light to merge the two into plasma, use a heavy to get 2x the damage
This works and I can get to 1.2 k damage per second per plasma with this trick

This is because the first hit of the heavy "has all the properties of a repulsor attack and has [+100%] attack rating". When you are converting the two debuffs into a plasma passive, that first hit is doubling your attack, and since the damage scales with your attack at the time the passive is created, you get double the damage from the plasma.
