I'm pretty sure it's to prevent summoners from hoping alliance to alliance to claim the rewards. If you start a new alliance, it should work since none of the rewards are claimed.5 -

I picked CapSam since he was the only one I didn't have as a 6 star. I have no regrets, I made the right choice for my roster. He's actually fun to use.5
