they did swap him. in Variant 1. if you're running Variant 3, Void is still there albeit not with the problematic nodes that exist in Variant 1.1 -

just fight as normal until they're ready to die and throw heavies/intercept until charges are gone. or use Archangel .. he pretty much walks through that path2
