I honestly think it is a good thing in the long run. It sets the target high rather than something like cavalier which is accessible within like a month of playing the game.4 -

Ranking up unawakened 6* if they are good unawakened is not a waste of materials. I took my 6* Sentinel to r3 unduped and had no regrets.6
