No, the game as a whole was not down, though it sounds like you may have had a connection error. If you were opening a crystal and the spinning animation had already started, please check your inventory as you would have received the item. If you would like extra help or confirmation, you can reach out to support by going to the gear icon in game and clicking "Support" under the Account header.
