Why is prestige important in the game? Why do higher alliances take so much importance in it? What is the benefit of having high prestige? I don't want to rank champs just coz he or she has high prestige. The champ needs to be really good to be considered worthy of ranking.

It determines how many points it's possible for your alliance to score in AQ. It's not as important as it used to be but it still matters if you are trying to score at a certain level with whatever maps you run. Rank people because they will help you not die in war or because they will get kills on defense over prestige though.
