Unduped symbiote supreme not nullifying buffs

I may just be reading the abilities wrong, but when I start a match against an enemy that has buffs at the start (venom, king Groot) sym supreme doesn't nullify their buffs with direct damage. They take no damage at all in the beginning. I remember during the EQ where he was introduced, I would take my Corvus with charges and he would take a ton of direct damage and the cruelties would be nullified. What am I missing here?

Use the SP3 first. Then I believe some SP1s. Don’t know a lot about him. But watch seasons video on how to use him properly

Not really what I'm asking. I think sym supreme is supposed to nullify buffs when the match begins. Before I reach any bars of power

It’s a bug Kabam said they were looking into a month ago but has gone silent. He’s got several bugs currently and they haven’t said much.
