No, it doesn’t have any relation with F4 champions release for crystals and arena. Just an awesome profile picture

It was more or less leaked that the beacon will eventually unlock profile pics, but as those are long term plans that extend outward for a year, we shouldn't bet too heavily on precisely what those beacons will eventually do. It is entirely possible the guy that finalizes the beacon functionality isn't even working for Kabam today. Things change, and features could be stacked onto the beacons at a later date.

Never trust leaks, not even when they come from the developers. They aren't required to honor them.

It’s not just a leak

Then it is a confirmed leak. It is still the case that that description should not be construed as a promise that this is the only thing the beacons will do. There are people saying that if the beacons are "just" for profile pics, then they can safely ignore them or not spend currency on them. In my opinion, such players are taking a gamble they have no right to complain about if they lose it.
