Objective progression block - Rank-Ups

Is there a way to progress past an objective that is cannot be attained?

Context:
"Rank up a 3-Star Avenger to Rank 2"
what if we have all of the 3-Star Avengers available, and they are beyond Rank 2 (or 3 or 4 for that matter)?

Yes, you can pick up Ronin in 2 weeks. Other than that each week the “Quest for the Stones” event awards a 3* Avenger you can sell and rank for the event; if the 1200 shards are worth it to you.

I hadn't thought of the former... and the latter led me to the question at hand: would Kabam provide a work-around for those who already surpassed some of the milestones with no way to go back (without selling a ranked champion)
