Do I have to use the special when his combo is even or odd? Or do I have to end the special on an even or odd?

Is when you fire the special.

It's both usually as Sp1 and sp2 are both 2 hits.

But as @eXtripa69 said, it's based on your combo when you activate special.

it counts when you start the special. although i don't think it matters much because sp1 and sp2 are both 2 hits
