What’s going on with the automatic alliances?

I was playing MCOC yesterday,
I was the leader of the alliance and have been for months now, I have played almost every day since that, only missing 6/7 during summer. I have been DEMOTED to member, I was only inactive for a few hours as I slept, in very unhappy about this because I STARTED the alliance ages ago, what’s annoying is that AW is starting soon.
