Mastery Points

My player level is 42 but I only own 37 mastery points. If we get 1 point per level how is this possible?
I have been on and off the game.
Is it possible to recover the missing points?

    You don't get mastery points from the first 5 or so levels.
    The maximum amount of mastery points you can get is 59 (55 from levelling up, one from each chapter of act 4 that you 100%). So from what I can tell you're all good for mastery points right now given your level...

    It's been sometime since I started so I guess I forgot about the first 5 levels, if I am not missing any points then it all should be fine
