1 HP left on Defenders

I just completed and Incursions run Zone 7 section 8. Well almost. Boss was left with 1 HP when I died due to degen because I was fighting with the link up. How can a defender have 1 HP left. This was the Champion. He has no abilities that would allow him to have 1 HP and there were no node buffs that would do this. I see this a lot in Arena and in AQ. Is this a bug?
