Cutoff During Incursion

Random question, but why do you not earn milestone rewards if you are in the middle of a Zone when the timer resets (the 3-day timer)?

I just completed 4 Sectors in Zone 7 to knock out a couple of milestones, but the 3-day timer expired during Sector 5.

The result: no credit for points toward milestones for the entire run. Email congratulations for clearing Sector 4, but otherwise nada.

If this has been covered/explained elsewhere, apologies.
