Digital chronometer question

If I buy a digital chronometer to force a 5 star awakening gem into my rift, will it be of a random class or do I get to choose the class too? (no I'm not tryna be greedy I read about this in some old thread and have been confused since)

    The rift itself already contains the awakening gem crystal which gives an awakening gem of a random class. What the chronometer does is let you go to whichever path you want to get the reward from, which in your case is likely to be the awakening gem crystal

    The awakening gem itself will be in the rift and not a crystal
    So you'll be able to see the class before you decide to use the chronometer
