Fake “original” list prices are a common strategy among morally grey retailers. Harvard did an excellent paper on pricing signals, including this strategy, a few years ago. Best way to defend yourself is by being an informed shopper with knowledge of the true value.

Hard pass on this one.

That original price is a fake number to make the deal look good, it’s shady but clever marketing which might catch a few unsuspecting newer players

Not with these slashed prices... It was worth $1,000,000. Now it's only worth $135,338. You lost a lot of money with this sale.
