Is this where Ægons name comes from?

So I recently found out that in Ancient Greek the word ‘contest’ is translated into ‘αγων’, pronounced a-gon. I immediately thought of Ægon, @Kabam Miike is this true?

It could be. Or it could be inspired by the Aegean Sea, which has been Greek for the past thousand years. Which in turn, as per the Greek myth of Theseas, was named after the Athenian Greek King Aegeas, father of Theseas, who committed suicide falling into this sea, erroneously thinking that his son died in the island of Crete, fighting the Minotaur.

Generally speaking, Aegon is heavily inspired (his costume, his helmet, his name, his blue color) from the Ancient Greek history and mythology.

That could be really cool. I'd love to see mods comment on this

Always assumed it was of a Greek origin, although I'm not very familiar with the "Æ" character. I also love the comment of Aegeas, Greek mythology is one of my favourite topic to talk about!

it makes sense. He has a very Greek feel to him, sort of like the underdog. Because the Champion also has a Greek look as well, and we all know how close those two are

So I did some research and the Ancient Greek word for champion is completely different so it won’t be from there like I thought it might

Interesting - Google Translate has 'διαγωνισμός' (diagonismós) as 'contest', and 'αγων' (agon) as 'struggle'.
You may be on to something after all. Or, as usual, Google translate is hopelessly wrong...

I confirm both translations as accurate (being Greek ).
I’d hope so thats what I’m being taught in school
you can take Greek? That’s awesome! We have the standard Spanish, French, German, Latin, then I think a few different Chinese dialects, and Japanese.

@SpideyFunko believe me Greek is savage, we have to do Latin as well so it means we have to do the Latin GCSE early. Luckily decided not to take it that far

The Ancient Greek name makes sense bc of his helmet and general clothing style. He also uses a spear, traditional Greek weapon but other than that no other weapons, surely if he can conjure ANYTHING with the ISO belt he’d conjure a gun or something but no, he uses ancient and traditional methods

It's his story, he's from the original contest waaaaay back, so that's where the spear comes, also, I wish they would give us a version of him without the helmet, his hair is epic

It’s actually both. Kabam made him, and with their association with Marvel, obviously being a marvel game, he became a Marvel character as well.
