Why do non-contact attacks get damage reflected with spiked armour

TP33TP33 Member Posts: 1,685 ★★★★★
So the idea is that the armour has spikes on it right? Perfectly fine. But how do non-contact attacks on special attacks etc get damage reflected. You’re not making contact with any armour or spikes so why do you get damage reflected? At the moment there are only 2 or 3 actual champion counters to spikes armour and that kind of sucks. But what if we apply common sense and logic and expand that to all non-contact attacks. Like how would Dr Dooms beams carry damage back? Makes no sense? At least then change the description to something like ‘reflective armour’ or ‘kinetic rebounding’ if you dont want to change it

If you read the node carefully, you will notice that it triggers when the defender receives a critical hit.
It doesn't need to by a physical or energy attack, contact or projectile attack. It just needs to be a crit

If you read his post carefully, you would know he knows, but is questioning the logic of non-contact attacks.
I know that. I gave a logical answer to how the node works, instead of going in a non-logical way just because the OP is including the node name in the effect provided by itself

It's so complicated for fiction to integrate realistic logic. That's evident in many of Marvel's movies and in this game as well, you all know what cases I'm referring to cough *Ghost rider and Iceman immunities* cough cough.

That said, in order for fans to fully assimilate the product, the realistic logic is necessary to account for. It's a fundamental part of our understanding of things and I too get disappointed when such accounting is lacking.

Is this really that important an issue that there needs to be a thread about it?? There are lots of things far more important than how spiked armor should be renamed.

Well spiked armour is one of the most annoying nodes especially on more difficult opponents. It has only got a few counters and it doesn’t actually make sense. It isn’t the most pressing issue but what’s the harm in creating a thread?

Preventing the buff is a counter to spiked armor, you can do this with something like fate seal in addition to ability accuracy reduction. There are more counters to it than you think.

OP asking about the meaning of SPIKED ARMOR, not necessarily how it technically works in game or who is good to bypass it.

Might be more accurate to think of it as an energy style of Armor, which would be able to inflict damage back to you even on your projectile attacks (spiked just meaning it will inflict you with damage). Instead of it being a physical shield with spikes on it.

Something whereby “lesser” (non critical) attacks are able to sneak through undampened, but which is able to interact against “stronger” (critical) attacks.

Because people would complain about both of your suggestions as well. Anyone who would nit-pick spiked armor is also going to nit-pick kinetic rebounding (how do attacks with no kinetic energy reflect, like psionic attacks) or "reflective armor" (why doesn't shattered armor affect reflective armor, why does it work for attacks that ignore armor, etc). An English description that precisely describes the underlying engine mechanics would be extremely verbose and eliminate all possibility for "color" text, and then would have to be precisely translated into fifty other languages.

And let's not forget the example of cold snap. People say "common sense" says Iceman should be immune to cold snap. But even though there is an in-source explanation for why Iceman might not be immune to cold snap - he's canonically an energy manipulator in the comics, and thus cold snap isn't an attack where Iceman *exposes* something to cold, it is an attack where Iceman rips energy out of the target - people just hand wave and say that's not common sense, that's applying physics where it doesn't belong. "Common sense" includes whatever people want it to include, and cleverly excludes all facts that aren't "common."

No he’s not. He’s presenting a flawed and false argument in an attempt to change the node.

We should take that reasoning and run with it. We'll only talk about what you think is the most important issue and nothing else until that issue is resolved or is no longer considered the most important. Worldwide one topic at a time based on your whims.

Spiked armor provides further protection when struck by a Critical hit, increasing this champion's Physical Resistance by X% for X seconds.
Additionally, X% Attack as Physical Damage is dealt back to the opponent.

i think that question already has the answer

Ok I get challenging a nodes validity but playing semantics to do so is just not a good approach for challenging a node. The developer had an intent. If the name of the node doesn’t match what you want that still doesn’t change the intent.

This isn’t going to make the node change but make the title change potentially to suit what you think it should say to give the same effect. Which to do on a node this old is not smart.

Also there are way more than 2 or 3 counters. There are 2 to 3 counters that don’t crit. There are other ways around this node other than using a CB or Guilly 2099. Maybe try a nullify champ/stagger champ. Or play the node smart and wait out the buff and stick to parry heavy champ. Others ways outside of those too.

Not to be rude but It’s honestly a 4 year old node and it one of the least challenging ones this game throws out there. Everyone should be able to figure there way around spiked armor.

its like the whole thing about life steal.
MS BWCV life steal a % of damage done and therefore can't regen if no damage is done.

but how does ghost rider regen against indestructible targets?
he does note regen on hit, he lifesteals. yes it is a flat values, but it is a life steal.
to steal implies taking something from someone without consent, therefore if GR cannot take the life from someone he can not gain it.
he Regens on hit just as Doc Strange does, yet kabam call it life steal.

There are many many example of things where kabam have used bad descriptions, wrong wording where common sense and logic may not apply.
at the end of the day you could either go through the game and pick out all these things and make a big deal out of them or you could just learn how they work and accept it even if the wording may seem a little off to you.

It seems as though a critical theoretical discussion is some kind of violation considering the resistance this thread faces. I'm genuinely curious, what is it that is so unbearable with this form of discussion?
