Require help with the thing

I have a 4* rank 4 thing but I am unable to gain more than 15 rock stacks. Also in small fights thing doesn't prove to be very useful . However everyone says he is one of the top champs. Can anyone help me on how to use him effectively in short fights as well...

Parrying gets you 5 stacks, and when you exceed 15 they go into passive fury. So in short fight my advice is just parry and go for special 2 (or 1, but i prefer sp2) when you have 15 or more stacks to convert them into furies.
