Is it possible for 1 alliance to get 72 defender kills and the other to get 15 and end up with same attack bonus points?

Yes, if played perfectly and you died 12x to boss. Then they played perfectly and died 69x to boss, you'd get the same exact attack bonus. Any deaths over 3 does not impact your attack bonus.

They had well over 20 before reaching boss our we had maybe 5 so still possible

Guess still possible depending on how many over 3 kills where on a single node. I know for a fact we never had 3 offensive champs killed on any 1 node but boss node.

Half there alliance offense teams where ko'd at least once and we had 1

Yes.. absolutely possible..

they maybe died a ton on a few fights

You have to look at defenders to see how many kills they got each.
