Overflowing class rank up gems

I understand that class rank up gems are dropped randomly by class. But there needs to be a way to trade or exchange them when RNG leads to a servere imbalance. I have 2x 2016 Science R4 rank up gems and 4x undated Science R4 rank up gems (one of which is now in overflow stash). All 3 of the recent R4 class rank up gems I have opened recently were Science (2x from Act 6 completion and 1x from Variant 1 completion). These are such a potentially valuable resource but the inability to balance them across classes drops the value to near zero. There should be an exchange option in place once a certain limit is reached for one class (such as, let's say, the actual inventory capacity).
I feel like this issue is already understood by Kabam given the move to generic gems in Variant 5. But is it too late to do anything about the old rewards?
